Agro success

Despite some logistical and initial COVID-19 protocol challenges, chief executive officer at the Barbados Agricultural Society James Paul says Agrofest 2022 was a success.

He gave that assessment yesterday at Queen’s Park on the final day of the two-day event, which returned for the first time since 2020 following a cancellation in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Citing the allowances given by the COVID Monitoring Unit, the sponsors and the hundreds of patrons who supported the event, Paul said they were pleased.

“We had doubts at first about whether people would have responded at this time because when we began the vaccination requirements were the issue, but we were able to say to the unit, ‘it would have been unreasonable to expect the number of persons we have here to be vaccinated and to be tested, so there were some real humps, but I think due to the consultation with the authorities it worked out,” Paul said.

Patrons were not required to be vaccinated or tested for COVID-19 before entering. However hand sanitising was conducted at the gate and the wearing of masks at the venue was optional. (TG)
