With the paper on education reform in the hands of Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, the jury is still out on whether yesterday’s Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination, also known as the 11-Plus or Common Entrance Exam, was the final one.
Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw, the former Minister of Education, who started the groundwork for reform of Barbados’ education system, which will see, among other things, the scrapping of the exam, said a decision will be made shortly.
“The paper on the reform has been finally completed and is before the Prime Minister for consideration and then on to Cabinet, so I expect that those decisions will be made very shortly,” Bradshaw said while in the company of Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw and Director of Education Reform Dr Idamay Denny.
The three visited Springer Memorial School yesterday at the end of the 11-Plus and they interacted with teachers and students.
So far it has been disclosed that the new system will involve middle schools and a continuous assessment process. (MB)
